Hey guys, I'm pretty desperate here, since I've tried everything.
After a fuse burned out, my tv broke and I bought a new one (Orion CLB39B980S). My ps3 was off when the fuse broke, but connected to the outlet. Now my PS3 will not connect to the new tv through HDMI. It works with AV cables, but that gets me no sound and wrong resolution, even after trying to change it in the options.
Okay, so here's stuff I tried and some facts:
I tried two different HDMI cables, one long one and one short one.
IMPORTANT: I tried holding the power button for 5 seconds to reset the video options on the PS3, but that does absolutely nothing - it does not do the double beep to show that it reset the options. It just turns on normally.
I have held the power button to turn it on for about a minute - that just makes it turn on and then off after a minute of holding. No safe mode or anything.
The PS3 takes way longer to boot than normal. It doesn't show the yellow light of death though.
I have tried going into the display settings to manually set it to HDMI. That doesn't work. I have tried setting it to HDMI and blindly picked "yes" to accept the changes and restarted everything (including unplugging both the tv and ps3 from the power sources) and it still does not work. Later I noticed that me picking "yes" probably did nothing. It just reverts to AV.
Now I have heard that some TVs can't display 1080p and need 1080i - however, I can't choose that in the options blindly, because as I said, after picking HDMI the screen goes blank anyway and I can't accept the setting. It just goes back to AV, even when I blindly pick yes on accepting the changes.
So, there it is. I hope this isn't too confusing. If you guys need any more info, let me know.
Maybe I can avoid formatting the PS3, but right now it looks like I will have to.
