Dear Playstation Fan Wizards!
Help! I need your support. I own a launch PS4 console. Recently it started switching off randomly during game play. I assumed it was getting old, passed its expiry date so I replaced it with a new model C PS4 Console.
The new model C PS4 with its non gloss finish and silent design was a breath of fresh air. Until a day or so later it started switching off randomly too. Like the previous console this could happen 5 minutes into use or 8 hours. There never seemed to be an exact time frame.
Now your probably thinking ITS OVERHEATING MATT! and that’s what I thought too, I had both consoles sitting on top of an entertainment unit well ventilated. I even tried putting a fan on them to experiment. But unfortunately no luck!
Confused and upset I called Playstation Support. I was advised because the console was only a few days old to exchange it at my local retailer, So I did.
Console number three. Surely my bad luck had come to an end. I noticed the serial number was 1 digit away from the last console. I booted the console up and notice no “signature air con” beep sound. I ignored that issue and continued using the console thinking this one would be fine, and yep you guessed it the console suddenly shut off!
At this point I was sure its something wrong with my setup, What are the odds of having 3 consoles all with the same issue. So I begun the troubleshooting.
Tried different power socket
Tried New HDMI Cable
Tried a UPS
Tried WIFI instead of Ethernet
Turned HDMI CEC off
Tried relocating the console
Changed power time off settings
Updated firmware of TV.
I emailed Playstation and was told
“Dear Matt,
Thank you for your recent email.
We are sorry to hear of the issues you are experiencing.
As you have now tried multiple different consoles and have managed to replicate the exact same issue on each of them, coupled with the fact that we have not received similar reports of this issue, would indicate that the issue does not lie with the consoles at all. “
I also called Playstation again and told them the situation, Because the third console having the “beep” issue I was told just to replace it anyway. So again I did with console number four and "YEP" the same issue random shut downs.
I am at a loss!
I sat down and reflected on the issue and did come up with one common thing. I noticed the original console only started doing this after the firmware 3.50 update.
Could the 3.50 update be causing issues with the way it talks to my Samsung UA65F8000 TV? The same tv that runs an Xbox One, Wii U, Pay TV box without any issues.
Please can anyone help!
Thanks in advance for taking the time to reading this. I normally don’t like to post long topics.
Matt
P.S Just wanted to add more detail about the random shut offs. When the console switches off its like someone has pulled the power cord. You have to press the power button twice to get the console to start again. It does that "Checking system" boot and then displays the error number CE-36329-3.
